Overview

Rose Quartz, translucent, usually turbid, very coarse-grained variety of the silica mineral quartz found in pegmatites. Rose quartz is valued for its pale- to rich-pink colour, which may be due to titanium. It has been carved since early times and has been faceted to provide gems of good brilliance.

Rose Quartz Etymology

Rose quartz jewelry was known to be crafted by the Assyrians around 800-600 BC. The Assyrians, along with the Romans, might have been the first to use this stone. People in the earliest recorded times believed in the magical powers of quartz.

Rose Quartz Origin

Rose quartz is found in pegmatite, a course-grained igneous rock (usually granite). Transparent rose quartz is rare, but is found where the best material comes from: Madagascar. The stone is found in quantity in Brazil, but also is known from Colorado, Scotland and in the former USSR.
